Language Tests – Frequently Asked Questions

How can I determine my language proficiency level?
There are 3 different ways to determine one’s language proficiency depending on the accuracy of the assessment:
1) self-assessment based on a scale that can be found here
2) online tests that you can find on the homepages of language schools. You can take our test here. We recommend online tests to those people who are planning to take language courses at Multilingua Language School, because this enables us to form groups with students of equivalent language proficiency.
3) if your school requires a language certificate, then we also offer language proficiency tests, and issue relevant certificates.
How is testing conducted and what kinds of skills are tested?
First you must make an appointment to take the test. The maximum duration of the test is 90 minutes. The test is comprised of an oral and a written part. The oral part of the test is conducted as an interview, whereas the written part of the test evaluates your reading, listening and writing skills. The written part is mainly made up of multiple choice questions, but you will also need to know how to write texts, fill in blanks, and answer questions, etc.
How long do I have to wait before I know my test results, and receive the certificate?
It will not take more than 1 working day.
For how long is the certificate valid?
Language proficiency certificates issued by Multilingua Language School are valid for 3 years. You may take a new test after 6 months.
Where is the language proficiency certificate issued by Multilingua Language School accepted?
The language certificates issued by Multilingua Language School have been accepted by both local and international employers and various educational institutions.
What is the scale of the language test?
The tests conducted at Multilingua Language School are based on the language proficiency framework devised by the Council of Europe:
A1 Breakthrough
A2 Waystage
B1 Threshold
B2 Vantage
C1 Effective Operational Proficiency
C2 Mastery
What kind of languages can be tested at Multilingua Language School?
You can take a test in the following languages: English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.
(NB! Estonian language proficiency tests are conducted only at the National Examinations and Qualifications Centre.)
How much does the test cost?
The cost of the language proficiency test at Multilingua Language School is 25.20€ (incl. VAT).
